Marketing Society - What We Do
Hello, estimated reader, and welcome to the marketing society blog. I shall be your host for this evening, the one, the only, resident blogger, Matt Dorrell. Is this your first experience with the marketing society? Well, let me tell you what we’re all about. We’re a society of like-minded individuals with a vested interest in the wonderful world of marketing. We believe that engaging in the extra-curricular activity will in time help students thrive in the professional world. There are two words that describe a worthwhile and fun extra-curricular activity, and both those words are in this sentence. Activity has to be worthwhile: we’re university students, after all, there is no time to waste! Equally, it needs to be fun: we spend so much time on our academic endeavours, any extra time we do have should be spent on allowing us to disengage from them. At the marketing society, we’re aiming at delivering both. So far, we’ve been hosting social events. The admin team spent the summer organising a ball-pit party at the Greenwich Student Union’s Lower Deck. To raise more awareness for our society outside of what was possible with our stand at the Greenwich Welcome Fair, this event had free entry to anyone who happened to be at the Student Union that night. Then we hosted social nights, including a dinner and a handful of games nights. These more casual events allowed newer members to meet each other, whether they were new to the university, or returning from their placements or Erasmus student exchanges. Now we have our eyes on loftier targets. We want guest speakers to come tell professional anecdotes. We want workshops run by students sharing their transferable skills. We want an audio podcast featuring in-depth conversations with our tutors, the very people teaching us the most valuable industry knowledge. As marketers, we’re always looking ahead at the next great project. Long story short, stay tuned because we have some big stuff coming.
